Egypt virginity tests for girls who want to go to University

A member of the Egyptian Parliament proposed this week to pass a virginity examination girls wanting to be admitted to the university.

According to reports the British Daily Mail, woman's parents "failed" the test would be advised.

However the member behind the proposal, Elhamy Agina says that his words were misinterpreted. He decided not to grant media interviews.

Agina affirmed that virginity should be a prerequisite for a woman wanting to access university education.

According to him, such a measure would also prevent the holding of unregistered marriage.  These "traditional" marriages are often held in secret because they are not recognized by the Muslim

..This type of marriage also proves less costly than traditional weddings
in an interview with the Egyptian newspaper Youm 7 Agina said " any girl who entered the University must be examined to prove she is a virgin "(Translated from Arabic by the Daily Mail)said:."

in response to the mockery conveyed about it on social media, the politician  people attack me and they are angry. So I decided that I would not speak to any media representative. It was a suggestion, not an official application. There is big difference between a request and a suggestion.

"Thereporter asked him what could be the government's strategy to prevent customary marriages. Then he made his proposal to virginity tests.

"I said it was not the government ask couples if they had contracted a customary marriage," he had said.

"But perhaps, I say maybe ... Just a suggestion that may or may not apply. The government could ask the university hospitals to prescribe drugs and virginity tests. Then universities could notify parents.
